Dan was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, the third and youngest son of a career army man. Typical of army life, the family lived in several states, including Washington, California, Alaska, Texas and New Jersey. He has many fond memories of Alaska – the wildlife (ask him about the seal in the bathtub!), the breathtaking, rugged terrain and abundance of outdoor activities. Hence his love for Leavenworth! Dan has been in the construction industry for most of his adult life. Traveling for months at a time worldwide, he has a vast knowledge of the lodging industry and has incorporated that experience into the design of the Fox Den. Constantly considering the comfort and experience of our guests, Dan is the creative one of the family and you will see his artistic touches and unique features throughout the Fox Den. An avid hobbyist, Dan enjoys woodworking, miniature trains, RC helicopters, designing and building koi ponds, operating his beloved Snowcat, known as “Snowshoe” and outdoor adventures of all kinds.
Lori was born and raised in Renton, Washington. She has lived most of her life in Washington, but also spent several years in Arizona. The youngest of three girls, Lori enjoyed spending much of her youth with her plethora of animals – dogs, cats, horses, ducks, bunnies, chickens, frogs and whatever else she could catch or save! Her career began in the hospitality industry, where her passion for food and cooking blossomed. She then segued into residential construction project management and development, focusing on interior design and customization. You’ll see her vision and talent in the unique Fox Den Suite themes. Lori’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, music (guests may hear the sounds of the piano in the evenings), reading and fostering for PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society); bottle baby kittens are her specialty!
Kalin, Dan & Lori’s only child, was born in 2002. Thankfully, she was blessed with a wonderful combination of her parents’ talents and interests. Kalin loves to bake, operates a mean band saw to carve her wood figurines, pampers her pets (Maya, her Husky/Shepherd, a rescue from Yakima and Dakota and Isabella – her cats, both adopted from PAWS) and has competed throughout the Northwest in Karate competitions. She won a gold medal in the “Novice Kata” category at the 2013 West Coast Open and currently holds a red belt. She also plays the bass clarinet, is on her school volleyball team, and her career goal is to attend WSU to become a veterinarian.
The O’Neals’ purchase and creation of the Fox Den is derived from a long-term love of Leavenworth and the surrounding area. Dan & Lori’s first romantic weekend together was in Leavenworth, during the magical Christmas season, staying in a downtown hotel overlooking the park. Their first excursion as a family, when Kalin was the ripe old age of two months, was to Leavenworth, with a stay at a wonderful Bed & Breakfast on the Wenatchee River and a horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow. Another favorite adventure was going mushing, where they met Perry Solomon, veteran Iditarod musher, and Kalin fell in love with Chocolate, her favorite sled dog.
“It is our fervent hope that many special memories will be created and cherished by our guests at the Fox Den, such as those we have made during our many visits to Leavenworth over the years. We welcome you to Leavenworth and the Fox Den!”
